Our outreach activities can be tailored to any age student (K-12). Teachers can complete this form and we will match you up with one of our scientists to visit your classroom/afterschool program/camp/club/science fair. The scientist will get in touch with you and together you can work on setting up the visit and the goal of the visit. We are here to work with you and what is best for your students!

Mission

Our mission is to connect students and classrooms with UNC scientists. These scientists range from college students to professors running research labs. They are a diverse group of individuals who have taken different paths to become scientists and share a love of science. Our hope is that through these personal interactions we can make science accessible, engaging, and also have a meaningful impact on the importance of science.

What to Expect

On the day of the visit, our scientist will spend some time introducing themselves, discussing their career path, and telling the class about their research. Then, they will prepare a hands-on and interactive lecture/activity and throughout, will welcome questions from the students. We haev prepared presentation and activities on memory and perception, senses and optical illusions, drugs and the adolescent brain and aging and the brain, though we are open to other topics! There is a lot of flexibility in how the teacher may want to set up our visit – classes could have prepared questions, students may want to ask about how the visitor decided to be a scientist, or may want to hear more about projects that the visitor works on, etc. Again, we are here to work with you and we will tailor our visit for whatever works best for your classroom/group.
