seq_mac_install
NOTE: Current Sequencher is NOT compatible with 64-bit macOS. Last compatible version is macOS Mojave
There are three components needed to complete this installation. Two are software installers and third is a license file.
Software installers: Sassafras K2Client and Sequencher
Note: Do NOT start this install if you can’t/don’t want to reboot your machine. Once you start the install, you will HAVE to reboot your machine at least two times to complete the install.
Part I: KeyAccess Client
For macOS (v.10.10.x and above): an account with administrator privileges may be required.
Note: If you get a warning about not being able to install the downloaded applications then you will need to temporarily change the security settings for app installs.
These can be found under “System Preferences” –>”Security and Privacy” –> “General”. Make a note of the original value and then change “Allow applications downloaded from:” to “Anywhere”. Install K2client/Sequencher. Once the install is done remember to reset this setting back to the original value.
- You can get the latest K2Client (KeyAccess) installer directly from Sassafras.
- macOS should automatically decompress the file and start the install.
- If the install does not start automatically double click the K2Client.pkg to install KeyAccess (administrator password will be required).
- A window will pop-up during install (it will have the generic word “keyserver” in the dialog box.) Replace default entry (keyserver) with seqsoft.unc.edu.
- Click “OK”
- You will need to reboot your computer at this point. KeyAccess client will automatically log onto sequencher keyserver whenever you start your computer.
Part II – Sequencher™ download
Attention: You will need to authenticate with your onyen/password to download the installer/license file.
- Download Sequencher Installer for macOS (you may need to hold down the Control button while you click the link and then select the “Download Link to Disk” option). Your Mac should automatically decompress the file after downloading. If the downloaded Sequencher installer file did not decompress automatically, you can double click the “zip” archive file to decompress it.
- Sequencher v.5.* requires a client-side license file.
Client License File -> SequencherKeyServerClient.lic <- Download. (Note: Control + click on link and choose “save as” to save the license file to your local desktop. Do NOT open or edit this file. File may acquire a .txt extension. That should be ok).
Part III – Sequencher™ install
- Double click the Sequencher Installer to install Sequencher. You will see a security warning about downloaded software. (admin account password will be required).
- You will see a warning about a second installer needing to run and then requiring a restart.
- After the Sequencher install completes, a second install for the Sentinel System Driver will automatically start. You will HAVE to start the computer after this install.
- “Sequencher Licenser Manager” window should open when you run Sequencher for first time.
- Select option #2 (“I have a license file”). In subsequent window navigate to the location where you saved the client license file (obtained in Part II above) and select it.
- Installer should indicate that “Installation was successful”.
- Click “finish” to complete the installation.
