seq_win_install

There are three components needed to complete this installation. Two are software installers and third is a license file.

Software installers: Sassafras K2Client and Sequencher

1. Before You Begin

You need the address for the computer running Sequencher KeyServer. That address is seqsoft.unc.edu.

2. Installing Sassafras K2Client

Note: You will have to restart your computer after the K2Client install. If you are not in a position to do so you may want to defer the installation to a later time.

You can get the latest K2Client (KeyAccess) installer directly from Sassafras. Choose appropriate installer for your OS.

Launch the K2Client application by double clicking on the installer icon. (Note: Win 10/8.1/7 Users can install by right clicking and choosing “Run as Administrator”)

Important: Type in the address for Sequencher KeyServer seqsoft.unc.edu in the first window you get after starting the installer. Leave all other fields at the default setting and keep clicking Next till you Finish the install.

K2Client will automatically log-in to the license server following a reboot.

3. Installing Sequencher (v.5.*)

Attention: You will need to log in (onyen/password) to download the installer and the license file (two steps below).

Download Sequencher installer (Note: You will need to log in using onyen/password). Use a suitable means to unarchive the file.

Client License File ->  SequencherKeyServerClient.lic <- Download. (Note: Right-click on link and choose “save as” to save the license file to your local desktop. Do NOT open or edit this file).

Navigate to the Sequencher installer folder and start installation. The InstallShield® Wizard will now guide you through the installation process. (Note: Win 10/8.1/7 Users should install by right clicking and choosing “Run as Administrator”)

  • Start Sequencher (v. 5.*) by double clicking appropriate shortcut.
  • “Sequencher Licenser Manager” window should open when you run Sequencher for first time.
  • Select option #2 (“I have a license file”).
  • In subsequent window navigate to the location where you saved SequencherKeyServerClient.lic  file and select it (even if it got a “.txt” extension it should be ok).
  • Installer should indicate that “Installation was suscessful”.
  • Click “finish” to complete the installation.

You are now ready to use Sequencher. Enjoy!

4. Accessing Sequencher from off-campus

Users needing access to Sequencher from off-campus will need UNC VPN. VPN client installers can be downloaded from UNC ITS. Versions for PC and Mac are available.
