Research Collaborations and Sponsorship

This current project is made possible through a partnership with Project ECHO© (University of New Mexico) and has been created in collaboration with Duke University and Wake Forest University to address critical gaps in AFib care. This collaboration is supported by a grant from the Bristol Myers Squibb Foundation. To learn more about the ECHO (Extension for Community Healthcare Outcomes) model, read this article from the American Medical Association Ed Hub.

Previous research was directed by UNC’s School of Medicine cardiologist, Anil Gehi, MD, through a $1.7 million grant from the Bristol-Myers Squibb Foundation to fund streamlining atrial fibrillation care and education for underserved populations. Launched in 2015 to further innovate a care model, these efforts have reduced hospitalizations for patients presenting in the emergency room by more than 30 percentage points during its first year.
