Professor Emeritus Diplomate, Clinical Informatics, Family Medicine Professor Emeritus Vice President and Chief Medical Informatics Officer, UNC Health

Dr. Spencer serves as Vice President and Chief Medical Informatics Officer for UNC Health and is a Professor of Family Medicine. A family physician for 40 years and a 25 year veteran of UNC Health and the UNC School of Medicine, Dr. Spencer previously served as Program Manager for the Carolina Data Warehouse for Health and Medical Director and Vice President of Ambulatory Care for UNC Health and was instrumental in developing physician champions who become influential in IT governance. He serves as the Associate Program Director of the fellowship program.

Prior to these IT roles, Dr. Spencer was in private practice in rural North Carolina before joining the University of Missouri-Columbia Department of Family and Community Medicine where he established office information systems in three rural practice sites and was responsible for practice management curriculum development in the family medicine residency.
