Clinical Assistant Professor

John is an emergency medicine (EM) physician interested in understanding how clinical informatics can provide quality healthcare and mitigate vulnerabilities within health systems. John became interested in clinical informatics through his work as a project manager for Epic Systems and began to appreciate the capability of informatics to transform healthcare systems through effective analysis, evaluation, and implementation of clinical data. Using his understanding of electronic medical record (EMR) systems, he developed and implemented an EMR capable of tracking clinic patients longitudinally, establishing continuity of care, and analyzing specific community needs for the University of Central Florida’s Global Health Program’s annual trip to the Dominican Republic.

Through his training at Sinai-Grace Detroit Medical Center, he saw how the health crises disproportionately affected the impoverished, and underserved communities. As an EM resident, he developed an initiative in the emergency department and intensive care units to standardize communications through digital technology regarding patient care updates, end-of-life care, and resuscitation code status discussions during the height of the COVID-19 pandemic. During his fellowship training, John hopes to develop leadership skills in healthcare operations and management and create data-driven innovation to evolve best-practices, and bridge health disparities in the future.
