Dr. Fix is the Associate Program Director of the Clinical Informatics Fellowship, a Lead Informatics Physician, and the Medical Director of Liver Transplantation at UNC. Prior to joining UNC, he was an Associate Provider Informaticist on the Epic Clinical Optimization Resource Team for transplantation at Providence St. Joseph Health in Seattle, WA. He is board-certified in Clinical Informatics in addition to Internal Medicine, Gastroenterology, and Transplant Hepatology. Other informatics roles include Chair of the Epic Hepatology Steering Board, Epic Hepatology Exemplar, Epic-certified Physician Builder, and Epic Cosmos Data Scientist. He also serves on the Governing Board of the American Association for the Study of Liver Diseases as a Councilor-at-Large. Dr. Fix has expertise in medical education and training and previously served on the Executive Committee for the ACGME Review Committee for Internal Medicine. He led an innovative competency-based pilot program to incorporate transplant hepatology training in gastroenterology fellowship, thereby shortening certification requirements for both specialties by one year, which is now an approved pathway by the ABIM. His informatics interests at UNC include work with AI integrations in the EHR, UNC’s Physician Builder Program, and use of large language models to automate and improve clinical efficiency.
