Intellectual and Developmental Disabilities (IDD)
Some people involved in the justice system or who use substances also have intellectual or developmental disabilities (IDD). Research from Prison Policy Initiative estimates that Around 15-25% of incarcerated people have intellectual or developmental disabilities. Understanding this unique intersection of experience is important for providers and staff who seek to serve these individuals. Intellectual and Developmental disabilities include Autism spectrum disorders, ADD/ADHD, developmental delays, learning disabilities, and various genetic conditions, among others.
