About

Dr. Williamson is a clinical associate professor and associate department head of graduate medical education and clinical care in the Department of Primary Care and Rural Medicine, where he practices inpatient medicine and outpatient procedures primarily. He completed his training at John Peter Smith Family Medicine Residency, where he completed a fellowship in Maternal-Child Health. During the fellowship, he obtained extensive POCUS experience and completed multiple online POCUS programs before the residency had a formal POCUS curriculum.

As core faculty and former associate program director for the Texas A&M Family Medicine Residency, Dr. Williamson has expertise in clinical pedagogy, resident remediation, procedural education, ultrasound training, and helping physicians move forward after bad outcomes.

POCUS Teaching Experience

Dr. Williamson serves as the POCUS faculty champion for Texas A&M’s Family Medicine Residency. As part of this, he has spearheaded efforts to train local faculty and residents in POCUS and frequently incorporates its use in clinic and hospital settings. He elevated the residency’s obstetric ultrasound experience and training through capital investments that have led to a local obstetric ultrasound referral center for multiple practices that provides dating ultrasounds, fetal surveys, and antenatal testing services.

He has held numerous local POCUS workshops, helped instruct multiple national POCUS workshops for medical students, and has the privilege of being one of the core faculty members of the STFM Family Medicine POCUS Educator’s Certificate Program and director of its advanced workshop.
