About

Dr. Patel is an Associate Professor and Associate Residency Program Director at the Ohio State University Department of Family and Community Medicine. He practices inpatient and outpatient medicine and precepts residents in these settings. He completed a Primary Care POCUS fellowship at Ohio State (2020-2021).

Since then, he has been instrumental in helping develop and deliver POCUS education for students, residents, and practicing physicians at Ohio State. He is the lead for POCUS within the department and has also helped train four family medicine POCUS fellows. He also teaches faculty POCUS across Ohio State through the institutional general provider POCUS course.

Dr. Patel was a co-founder of the STFM FM POCUS Educator’s Certificate Program and has taught POCUS nationally. He also serves as the competency assessment workgroup lead for the STFM POCUS Task Force.

Outside of his POCUS experience, Dr. Patel has published approximately 10 peer-reviewed publications, serves as an author for an UpToDate article, and was an author on 6 peer-reviewed podcast episodes on POCUS.

His areas of interest lie at the intersection of medicine, education, technology, and innovation. Specifically, these areas include POCUS implementation and education, artificial intelligence in medical education, Electronic health record optimization, and competency-based medical education.
