About

J. Wes Halderman, MD, FAAFP, is a Family Physician practicing in rural Jamestown, Ohio, and serving as Associate Program Director & Director of the Rural Pathway of the Soin Family Medicine Residency in Dayton, Ohio. He graduated from the Ohio State College of Medicine and completed his residency training at Self Regional Healthcare in Greenwood, South Carolina.

Dr. Halderman’s academic and clinical interests center on the integration of POCUS into Family Medicine training and practice, particularly in resource‑limited and rural environments. In 2018, he launched the POCUS curriculum at the Soin Family Medicine Residency, establishing one of the region’s earliest structured ultrasound training programs within a community‑based family medicine residency.  Dr. Halderman continues to lead curricular development in collaboration with a multidisciplinary Kettering Health team. Under his leadership, all Soin PGY‑1 residents now complete a required POCUS rotation which includes quality review of captured scans and a final case-based skills assessment in addition to numerous hands-on training sessions.  His POCUS teaching experience includes faculty roles at the inaugural POCUS workshops of both the Ohio Academy of Family Physicians and the Miami Valley Academy of Family Physicians, as well as instructional work at Cedarville University. Clinically, Dr. Halderman incorporates POCUS into family medicine practice in both U.S. and international settings, with particular emphasis on applications in rural underserved care.
