About
Dr. Jerica Johnson is an Associate Professor at the University of New Mexico
(UNM) Department of Family and Community Medicine, where she practices broad-spectrum family medicine on the UNM Family Medicine Residency inpatient teaching service, on the maternal-child health service providing obstetric care, in an outpatient clinic, and at the Bernalillo County youth detention center.
She graduated from the University of Utah School of Medicine and completed her residency training at UNM Family Medicine Residency Program, where she served as chief resident.
Dr. Johnson has championed POCUS education for students, residents, and practicing physicians and providers at UNM. She has created and developed both inpatient and outpatient POCUS curricula for the UNM Family Medicine Residency program. She also serves on the UNM Hospital POCUS Committee to collaborate with other departments.
Nationally, Dr. Johnson served as a POCUS Education Expert on the STFM POCUS Education Taskforce as part of Project FOCUS (Finding Consensus for POCUS Standards in Family Medicine Education and Competency-Based Assessment), which was a landmark initiative to establish consensus guidelines on POCUS competencies for family medicine residency training
She has also organized, led, and taught at local, national, and international POCUS workshops.
Her research focuses on POCUS education in graduate medical education. She has presented at national conferences on these areas and has obtained institutional grant funding to research the development of a POCUS curriculum for Family Medicine Residents at UNM and to integrate POCUS into primary care settings.
