About
Dr. Tenegra was born and raised in Illinois, is married to another family physician, and has three children. He enjoys practicing full-spectrum family medicine but is especially interested in performing procedures, pediatrics, and women’s health. In his free time, he enjoys traveling, racing in triathlons, and being involved in the local community.
Dr. Tenegra has been the Associate Program Director of the SIU Decatur Family Medicine Residency since July 2025. He has also been the Director of Point of Care Ultrasound and Faculty Development for the SIU Department of Family & Community Medicine since 2022. From 2021 to 2025, he chaired the Society of Teachers of Family Medicine (STFM) Emerging Leaders Fellowship for early-career faculty in academic medicine. Dr. Tenegra’s research and educational interests include using simulation to improve clinical care and medical education, incorporating point-of-care ultrasound into residency education, and faculty & leadership development in academic medicine.
