About
Dr. Rebecca Gwaltney is a family physician at the University of Massachusetts (UMass) Medical School, where she practices full-spectrum family medicine, including obstetrics, and teaches residents in the UMass Worcester Family Medicine Residency Program. She proudly serves as the POCUS Education Director for the UMass Department of Family Medicine and Community Health, leading all aspects of Point-of-Care Ultrasound (POCUS) education. A dynamic and dedicated educator, Dr. Gwaltney has been instrumental in expanding ultrasound training for family medicine learners at UMass. In her academic leadership role, Dr. Gwaltney oversees the residency’s core POCUS curriculum, hands-on workshops, elective rotations, and the quality assurance review of resident-acquired images. She is also a founding member and instructor of the UMass Interprofessional Center for Experiential Learning and Simulation (iCELS) “Intro to POCUS Hands-On Course,” a full-day interprofessional workshop serving clinicians across a wide range of medical specialties. She is a past recipient of the UMass Department of Family and Community Medicine Educator of the Year Award. Dr. Gwaltney is an active national presenter, sharing her work in curricular innovation and faculty development. She has presented at the Society of Teachers of Family Medicine (STFM) Conferences, including sessions on faculty development in POCUS education and practical strategies for building a residency ultrasound curriculum from the ground up.
