About

Dr. Ryan Trantham is a family medicine physician and core faculty at the Waco Family Medicine Residency Program in Waco, Texas. Dr. Trantham attended Baylor College of Medicine and completed his residency at Waco Family Medicine, where he joined the faculty after graduation as the POCUS champion. He completed a graduate certificate in Academic Medicine at the University of North Texas Health Science Center, where his capstone project was designing a novel POCUS Curriculum for full-spectrum family medicine residents. He currently serves as the Curriculum Director for WFMRP and as the POCUS Coordinator for the WFM clinic system. Dr. Trantham staffs the inpatient services for adults, pediatrics, and labor and delivery at Ascension Providence and Baylor Scott and White Hillcrest hospitals.

Dr. Trantham has served as a member of the STFM POCUS Education Taskforce as part of Project FOCUS (Finding Consensus for POCUS Standards in Family Medicine Education and Competency-Based Assessment). He is particularly interested in the implementation of advanced ultrasound skills in the primary care clinic for underserved patients through his work at a Federally Qualified Health Center.

Outside of medicine, Dr. Trantham is an avid traveler and known for his lively contributions to a (mostly) successful pub trivia team. He and his dog, Doppler, can be found exploring the state parks and trailways of Texas most weekends he’s not on call.
