Our History
A Legacy of Excellence
The Division of Speech and Hearing Sciences, a branch of the UNC School of Medicine’s Department of Health Science, has provided high-caliber audiology care since 1969. Originally located in Wing D of the division’s campus building, faculty audiologists have used the clinic to train the next generation of professionals. Our commitment to exemplary clinical training is evident in our decades of providing hearing services to the local community. It’s no surprise that UNC’s audiology program is ranked #5 in the nation!
In 2004, the UNC Hearing and Communication Center was established at the intersection of Farrington Road and Highway 54. Our convenient, off-campus location makes access to comprehensive audiology care even easier. In 2018 we began offering comprehensive balance and vestibular assessments. And in 2019, we further expanded our service to a satellite office in the Orange County Sportsplex in Hillsborough.
Each of our licensed audiologists is also a professor in UNC’s Division of Speech and Hearing Sciences. As a teaching clinic, the UNC HCC prides itself in evidence-based methods of care, which are proven to provide patients with the most effective communication. We utilize the newest research and cutting-edge technology in every aspect of treatment.
