As a North Carolina native, Dr. Cox attended NC State University and received her Bachelor of Science in Biological Sciences. She obtained her Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine from Campbell University School of Osteopathic Medicine. Completing her pediatric residency at East Carolina University, neonatology was solidified as her calling. Dr. Cox is intellectually and emotionally fulfilled in the NICU and enjoys the multidisciplinary team dynamic, and the relationships built with families. After completing her Neonatal-Perinatal Medicine fellowship, Dr. Cox desires to be an academic neonatologist focusing on enhancing healthcare quality through quality and continuous improvement. She has published research on the effects of distance from her residency’s NICU follow-up clinic on other socioeconomic barriers to follow-up clinic attendance. Because she is passionate about helping NICU patients thrive during their hospital admission and beyond, she is interested in combining her quality improvement work with researching neonatal follow-up and neurodevelopmental outcomes.
