She received training in quality improvement methods through the Advanced Improvement Methods Workshops at the North Carolina Center for Children’s Healthcare Improvement and Cincinnati Children’s Hospital. Dr. Flower’s previous IHQI-funded project, Carolina Conexiones (2015), aimed to improve patient experience and flow for Spanish-speaking families at UNC Children’s Hospital with patient navigators, and has been sustained for nearly a decade. Her work has also involved implementing and scaling up healthcare interventions to improve early childhood health, including through leading multisite learning collaboratives to implement early childhood screening (American Academy of Pediatrics, Project I-SCRN), to implement breastfeeding support in 100 hospitals (CDC, EMPOWER), and to implement early childhood health promotion (CMS, NC Integrated Care for Kids). She has 20 years of experience implementing and evaluating primary care-based interventions to reduce healthcare disparities.
