I am a Board-Certified Medical Oncologist and a tenure-track Assistant Professor of Medicine in the Division of Medical Oncology with a secondary appointment in the Department of Otolaryngology at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill (UNC). My clinical expertise is in the treatment of head and neck cancers (HNC) and thyroid cancers. My research focuses on early phase clinical trials and evaluating promising biomarkers.
At UNC, I am a member of our dynamic head and neck cancer research program. I lead multiple clinical trials, many which are evaluating novel combinations of immunotherapy and targeted therapies. To complement this work, I have developed a keen interest in non-invasive biomarkers, specifically circulating tumor DNA (ctDNA). Through the support of an ASCO/Conquer Cancer Foundation Young Investigator Award (YIA; 2019) and a 2021 NIH Paul Calabresi K12 Career Development Award in Clinical Oncology, I am studying if ctDNA can be an effective tool to monitor for treatment response and disease recurrence.
I greatly enjoy caring for my HNC and thyroid cancer patients. Our multidisciplinary team at UNC is deeply committed to providing the best care and support for our patients. By designing and leading clinical trials and translational studies, I hope to positively impact my patient’s disease outcomes and their quality of life.
