Dr. Trevor Hackman is a Professor in the Department of Otolaryngology, serving as Vice Chair of Inpatient Operations and Quality Improvement and Director of the Head and Neck Oncology Fellowship. His clinical practice focuses on head and neck oncology, minimally invasive surgery, salivary gland disease, and reconstructive surgery.
Dr. Hackman’s academic work is centered on quality improvement and systems-based practice. He has held multiple institutional leadership roles, including Triad Service Line Leader and physician advisor for UNC Patient Safety Indicator (PSI) initiatives, and currently serves as a physician advisor to the Throughput Strike Team. His scholarship includes the development and implementation of standardized inpatient care pathways aimed at improving safety, efficiency, and clinical outcomes.
He currently leads multidisciplinary efforts to optimize Enhanced Recovery After Surgery (ERAS) protocols in otolaryngology, with a focus on opioid stewardship, patient education, and reducing length of stay and postoperative morbidity.
