Dr. Zach Willis is an Associate Professor of Pediatrics and member of the Division of Pediatric Infectious Diseases. He has served as the Pediatric Director of the Carolina Antimicrobial Stewardship Program (CASP) since 2016. In that role, Dr. Willis uses Quality Improvement methods to optimize care for pediatric patients with severe infections, while working to prevent antimicrobial resistance and C. difficile infections. He has also been a leader in prevention of hospital-acquired infections in UNC Children’s.
As an IHQI scholar in 2018-19, Dr. Willis led the project “Implementation of Antibiotic Time Outs at UNC Medical Center.” He has served as a mentor for doctorate of nurse practitioner students, whose capstone projects focused on improving the diagnosis and management of common pediatric infections in the outpatient setting. He has also served as a mentor in the Clinician Leadership in Quality and Safety Scholarly Concentration for medical students at UNC.
