North Carolina Residency
For admissions application purposes, we typically use the legal state of residence reported on your AMCAS application. Applicants who report North Carolina as their legal state of residence should do so only if they meet North Carolina legal residency standards. In general, UNC School of Medicine looks to the same North Carolina residency principles used by the Residency Determination Service (RDS). You do not need an RDS determination to apply, but if you are admitted, you will need to complete the RDS process to determine eligibility for in-state tuition and to maximize financial aid eligibility.
