North Carolina Residency
The UNC policy for determination of in-state status for students can be found at the Office of the University Registrar. Another helpful resource is the North Carolina Residency Determination Service (RDS). RDS is used only to determine whether you qualify for the in‑state tuition rate. An RDS decision of “non‑resident” does not affect whether you are considered an in‑state applicant for admissions purposes. If you are accepted, you will need to complete the RDS process in order to establish eligibility for in‑state tuition and to maximize your eligibility for financial aid.
