Cefalo College

The Cefalo Advisory College is named in honor of Dr. Robert C. Cefalo, MD, PhD, a professor emeritus of obstetrics and gynecology at the UNC School of Medicine. Dr. Cefalo dedicated 25 years to leading the medical residency and fellowship programs at UNC hospitals, shaping the future of countless healthcare professionals. Originally from Boston, he pursued his undergraduate studies at Boston College, earned his medical degree from Tufts University, and completed his PhD at Georgetown University. His medical journey began in 1956 when he entered the U.S. Navy, where he completed his residency training and served before joining the UNC faculty in 1979. In recognition of his contributions to medical education, Dr. Cefalo was honored with the Courage to Lead Award from the American Council on Graduate Medical Education in 2007. His legacy of leadership and commitment to educating future physicians serves as a guiding example for the students of the Cefalo Advisory College.
