Tamara Damjanac, MD
Clinical Assistant Professor of Medicine
About
Dr. Tamara Damjanac is from Minnesota originally and attended Carleton College where she graduated with a Bachelor of Arts in Chemistry. As a college student, the arts attracted her—film, writing, developing screenplays, recording podcasts—as a way to reach people.
After graduation, Dr. Damjanac considered applying for internships at NPR, but science drew her back. She worked at the Mayo Clinic in Rochester as a graduate researcher. There, she focused on paragangliomas before beginning medical school at the University of Minnesota. Dr. Damjanac discovered her love of geriatrics during her intern year of residency at UNC and had the opportunity to work on several research projects related to frailty.
Additionally, she has continued to be passionate about arts and medicine. With COVID19, Dr. Damjanac created and organized a virtual elective course for medical students called “Pandemics and Film”. In recognition of her outstanding compassion and clinical skills, Dr. Damjanac was inducted into the Gold Humanism Honor Society. Also, she is a prize-winning pie baker, speaks Serbian, and enjoys writing essays and short stories
