Prostate Cancer Across North Carolina

Prostate Cancer is the second leading cause of cancer death for men in North Carolina (behind lung cancer). Early detection of prostate cancer saves lives: Almost all men who are diagnosed early, before the cancer has spread, survive for 5 years and beyond, but that drops to only 34% of men who are found to have prostate cancer after it has spread. In North Carolina, new prostate cancer cases and deaths vary from county to county and by race/ethnicity. In this interactive page you can explore the prostate cancer numbers for each county and how they compare to the overall state figures.

New cases and deaths are the latest 5-year averages (2016-2020) available from National Cancer Institute’s State Cancer Profiles and are reported per 100,000 men.

In North Carolina:

  • The rate of new prostate cancer cases is
    124 casesper 100,000 men.
  • The overall prostate cancer death rate is
    20 deathsper 100,000 men.
