Congratulations to the Lab of Jonathan Schisler, MS, Ph.D., Assistant Professor, Department of Pharmacology, in collaboration with Afshin Beheshti, Ph.D., Bioinformatician and Principal Investigator, Blue Marble Space Institute of Science/NASA Ames Research Center; Visiting Researcher, Broad Institute; President, COVID-9 International Research Team, for the receipt of space biology research grant, entitled “Spaceflight and Regolith Induced Mitochondrial Stress Mitigated by miRNAbased Countermeasures”, from NASA.
With NASA Prinicipal Investigator (PI), Afshin Beheshti, the Schisler Lab along with six other labs will develop methods to: 1) monitor metabolic changes that occur during spaceflight/regolith exposure and 2) manipulate liver metabolism by using miRNA-targeting antagomirs specifically enhancing mitochondrial function. This includes access to lunar regolith (moon dust) for tissue-based experiments at the NASA Space Radiation Laboratory.
