Associate Professor Principle Investigator (PI)

Dr. Prem Lakshmanane received his Ph.D. in Structural Biology and Biological Chemistry from the WeizmanInstitute of Science. He completed his postdoctoral training at the Sanford Burnham Prebys Medical Discovery Institute and was a senior research fellow at Institute for Molecular Bioscience, Queensland University. Dr. Lakshmanane is an Associate Professor of Microbiology and Immunology at UNC-Chapel Hill. He leads a laboratory focused on understanding the antibody response to arbovirus and coronavirus infection and vaccination to design novel antigens for diagnostics, develop mAbs with therapeutic potential, and collaborate with virologists to build prototype vaccine strategies for these viruses. Dr. Lakshmanane’s laboratory is part of the NIH-funded North Carolina SeroNet Center for Excellence and Centers for Research in Emerging Infectious Diseases (CREID) Network.
