Collaboration Development
Our collaborations at UNC involve scientists from 10 different academic departments. We also support external academic efforts from all over the United States. Additionally, we are capable of executing collaborations with small biotech start-ups in addition to established pharmaceutical entities. In order to accommodate a broad scope of research efforts, we work closely with UNC’s Office of Technology Commercialization (OTC) to help facility research service agreements and requisite material transfer agreements. Importantly, the MP1U is not considered a fee-for-service core. However, we do strive for collaborative efforts that lead to funding support and publications in peer reviewed journals.
Project Proposals
Any group interested in collaborating with the MP1U should first download, complete, and send the request for collaboration form to the director,

Acknowledgments
While we are always open to authorship opportunities not all manuscripts generated with MP1U’s help require one of our staff or directors listed as an author. However, we do request that you mention us in the following ways:
- In the methods section where you discuss animal handling: e.g. “Mice were housed in the UNC Lineberger Comprehensive Cancer Center’s Mouse Phase I Unit (MP1U) AAALAC accredited vivarium(s). Therapeutic studies and assessment for response and health status were performed by the MP1U under compliance with our Institutional Animal Care and Use Committee (IACUC).
- In the acknowledgements: “We thank the directors and personnel of the UNC Lineberger Comprehensive Cancer Center’s Mouse Phase One Unit (MP1U) for assistance with animal handling, therapeutic studies and tumor serial assessment. Work in the MP1U was supported by the University Cancer Research Fund.”
