Division Chief of Neuro Oncology at UNC Health Dr. Sengupta hosts brain tumor symposium funded by the Weatherspoon family to discuss ongoing research and treatment options for malignant brain tumors.

Cancer biologist Kerry Roby, PhD will join Dr. Soma Sengupta and Dr. Daniel Pomeranz Krummel in their joint research lab studying brain cancers.

Dr. Sengupta was announced as a Mayfield Scholar by the Mayfield Education & Research Foundation. This will protect 60% of her time to be committed to advancing research and trials.

Debanjan Bhattacharya, PhD and former members of Soma Sengupta and Daniel Pomeranz Krummel’s group unveiled the molecular mechanism behind GABA-A receptor activation leading to non-small cell lung cancer cell death (in various models).

Soma Sengupta has been nominated to the committee of British Neuro-Oncology Society (BNOS).

Dr. Soma Sengupta and Caroline Mohammed attended the 2024 ABTA National Conference in Chicago, where Dr. Sengupta spoke as a keynote speaker on redefining survivorship and Caroline presented her work on the immune response in metastatic lung cancer.

Dr. Barrile’s team published a paper in Advanced Healthcare Materials in collaboration with Soma Sengupta and Daniel Pomeranz Krummel’s group on the rapid biofabrication of an advanced microphysiological system modeling phenotypical heterogeneity and drug resistance in glioblastoma. 

Colin Chen presented his work on the animated 3D model of a novel anti-cancer drug, AM-101.

Dr. Sengupta organized at UNC the first Weatherspoon Symposium. Caroline Mohammed presented her work on the GABA-AR protein at the 2024 Weatherspoon symposium.
