Dr. Alexandra Balaban is a board-certified pathologist with specialized expertise in surgical and breast pathology. She earned her B.S. in Mathematics with a minor in Computational Biology from Duke University and her M.D. from the University of Miami Miller School of Medicine. She also completed a Cancer and Genomics training grant in biostatistics at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. She went on to complete her pathology residency at Duke University Hospital, followed by a Surgical Pathology Fellowship at Houston Methodist Hospital with a focus on breast and gynecologic pathology, a Cytopathology Fellowship at Duke, and advanced Breast/Gynecology Surgical Pathology fellowship training at Duke.
Dr. Balaban has an active record of research, publications, and teaching, with experience educating medical students and residents and contributing to national meetings. She now joins the Department of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine at UNC in the Surgical Pathology division, where she will focus on breast pathology.
