Research Interests
I direct the Immunology, Histocompatibility and Immunogenetics Laboratories at UNC Hospitals. These laboratories perform and consult with providers on a variety of tests for UNC Health patients with particular emphasis on immunodeficiency, infectious, allergic and autoimmune disease diagnostics, solid organ and hematopoietic cell transplantation. My teaching activities contribute to the education of laboratory staff, graduate and medical students, residents and clinical fellows in several subspecialties. In addition, I direct the UNC Hospitals Medical Laboratory Immunology Training Program that trains doctoral level individuals to direct diagnostic immunology and histocompatibility laboratories. Research interests include assessment of the impact of HLA antibodies on solid organ transplant outcomes and evaluation of novel immunodiagnostic methods. In addition, I am Associate Director of the UNC Center for AIDS Research HIV/STD Laboratory Core. This laboratory provides a variety of laboratory services to facilitate basic, translational and clinical research on HIV infection.
