Research Interests

My research aims at understanding of molecular mechanisms of immune mediated kidney diseases with emphasis on antineutrophil cytoplasmic autoantibody (ANCA) induced glomerulonephritis (ANCA disease). My recent efforts are focuses on 1) elucidating genetic basis that regulates the pathogenesis of ANCA disease. Recent ongoing studies using MPO-ANCA disease mouse model indicate that anti-MPO IgG caused different severity of ANCA disease in 13 different strains of mice, which mimics disease variation in ANCA patients. Genomic and gene expression microarray studies are underway to identify genes responsible for these differences in disease severity. 2) identifying specific epitopes that are targeted by pathogenic anti-MPO IgG. Recombinant mouse/human MPO chimeric molecules have created and the pathogenic epitopes are being mapped using the chimeric molecules. 3) developing PR3-ANCA disease mouse model. Success with this model would advance our understanding of mechanism of PR3-ANCA disease.
