Graduate Research Assistant Dr. Erica Sparkenbaugh Lab

Kylie Hutchison is a PhD student studying the molecular and vascular drivers of placental dysfunction in Sickle Cell Disease under the mentorship of Dr. Erica Sparkenbaugh. Originally from Colorado, Kylie graduated summa cum laude from the University of Oklahoma with a B.S. in Microbiology and a minor in Chemistry. She spent much of her undergraduate career running a nonprofit focused on combating period poverty throughout the state. Her passion for improving women’s health is what drew her to UNC, and the kind, collaborative environment is what made her stay. She is now heavily involved in the Women’s Health Multidisciplinary Consortium here at UNC where she continues to forge a community invested in bettering women’s health. Outside of the lab, she enjoys reading, working out, and spending time with her cat, Fig Newton.
