UNC Urology recently came together for its much-anticipated annual Faculty Retreat. Research Advancements:

Expanded Research Staff:
The department has witnessed remarkable growth with the expansion of our research team. This investment reflects our commitment to advancing urologic research and contributing to scientific innovation.

OnCore Platform Introduction:
The introduction of OnCore has marked a pivotal step in reducing administrative burdens, improving operational efficiencies, and strategically advancing our clinical research portfolio. This platform enhances our ability to navigate the complex landscape of clinical research at UNC.

Outsourced Regulatory Oversight:
To optimize our department resources, regulatory oversight of oncology studies has been outsourced to teams within the UNC Lineberger Comprehensive Cancer Center, allowing our in-house team to focus on other research support endeavors.

Urologic Oncology Research Portfolio:
Our research portfolio has seen significant additions in the last year including Dr. Friedlander who is leading the charge as the site PI for “SOUL MUSIC,” a study examining stent omission after ureteroscopy and lithotripsy. Additionally, Dr. Bjurlin is at the helm of a PCORI-funded RCT assessing transperineal prostate biopsy to reduce infection complications.

Clinical Care Milestones:

Increased Single Port Surgery Cases:
UNC Urology has witnessed a notable increase in Single Port Surgery cases, showcasing our commitment to adopting cutting-edge surgical techniques.

Record-High OR Volume:
The department has achieved an all-time high in Operating Room (OR) volume, a testament to our dedication to meeting the growing healthcare needs of our community.

Fusion Prostate Biopsy Program Growth:
Our fusion prostate biopsy program has experienced substantial growth, reflecting advancements in diagnostic approaches for prostate conditions.

Local Procedure Templates Expansion:
Expanding local procedure templates ensures standardized and efficient practices, promoting optimal patient care across the board.

Restarting Urodynamics Care:
The reinstatement of urodynamics care underscores our commitment to comprehensive urological services, meeting the diverse needs of our patients.

GA Cysto Expansion:
The expansion of General Anesthesia (GA) Cystoscopy services enhances accessibility and convenience for our patients, further strengthening our commitment to patient-centric care.

Improved Access for Urgent Care Clinic:
Efforts to enhance access to our Urgent Care clinic demonstrate our dedication to providing timely and responsive care to those in need.
