As part of its commitment to compassionate patient care, UNC Health administers the Press Ganey Medical Practice survey – seeking feedback from patients about their experiences and the likelihood of recommending their medical provider’s practice to loved ones.

This year, 205 UNC Hospital and UNC Faculty Physician providers emerged in the top quartile nationally, receiving the highest recommendations from their patients. In recognition of this outstanding accomplishment, UNC Hospitals & UNC Faculty Physicians proudly presented the 2024 “Award for Carolina Care Excellence” to these exemplary providers.

Among those awarded were three individuals from the UNC Department of Urology. Congratulations to Heather Schultz, NP, FAUNA; Marc Bjurlin, DO, MSc, FACOS; and Dr. Matthew Nielsen, MD, MS, FACS.

Heather Schultz, NP, FAUNA, a faculty member of the Department of Urology, brings both empathy and expertise to her practice. Specializing in caring for patients with genitourinary malignancies, Heather’s compassionate approach resonates deeply with those under her care.

Marc Bjurlin, DO, MSc, FACOS, an Associate Professor of Urology, is renowned for his dedication to urologic oncology. With a focus on treating bladder, prostate, testis, and kidney cancer, Dr. Bjurlin’s collaborative approach within the Multidisciplinary Genitourinary Oncology Group at the Lineberger Comprehensive Cancer Center ensures each patient receives personalized, comprehensive care.

Matthew Nielsen, MD, MS, FACS, is the Chair of the Department of Urology and the John Sloan Rhodes and John Flint Rhodes Distinguished Professor of Urology. Dr. Nielsen’s clinical practice is focused in urologic oncology—in particular, the treatment of bladder and prostate cancer. His role within the integrated Multidisciplinary Genitourinary Oncology Group underscores his commitment to advancing patient care through collaboration and innovation.

As we celebrate their achievement, we also extend our gratitude to all healthcare providers who tirelessly serve their patients with integrity and compassion.
