Matthew Nielsen, Interim Chair of Urology, has been appointed to support efforts to update the CMS Quality Measure Development Plan and Quality Measure Index.

Congratulations to our eight faculty physicians who were recently recognized on the 2019-20 Best Doctors List. This year, UNC Hospitals had more Best Doctors specializing in Urology than any other physician group in North Carolina.

Matthew Nielsen, MD, MS, FACS assumed the role of Interim Chair of the Department of Urology on January 1, 2020. Nielsen joined the faculty at UNC in 2009 as a urologic oncologist and health services researcher.

The second major update we made is there is now sufficient data to support the use of prostate MRI in all men before their initial prostate biopsy when the MRI is of sufficient quality Dr. Bjurlin told Urology Times.

Four speakers shared personal stories of their failures. We’ve all been there. However, as I listened to each, I realized how little we speak about them.

On November 14, UNC Medicine held one of our largest events of the year to say “thank you” to our amazing supporters. Throughout the evening, guests enjoyed interactive stations highlighting UNC Medicine’s signature initiatives and the innovative work and research by our faculty. The Advancing Health station highlighted surgical simulation and robotic medical assistance with two da Vinci Surgical Systems, one presented by Dr. Eric M. Wallen, Vice-Chair of Education, Residency Program Director and Professor of Urologic Oncology.
