Announced in the monthly Pediatrics Chair’s Message, May’s “Unsung Hero” is UNC Urology’s Ben Hilliard, RN, BSN, CPN.

Below is the Message from UNC Pediatric’s Chair Stephanie D. Davis, MD:

Our unsung hero this month was nominated by Sherry Ross, MD. Dr. Ross nominated Ben Hilliard, RN, Pediatric Urology Nurse Coordinator. Ben is definitely the cornerstone of Pediatric Urology.

He received his BSN from the University of Colorado and began his nursing career at Children’s Hospital Colorado. Ben moved to North Carolina with his wife and two boys in 2017. He was initially a nurse in the UNC critical care unit then joined Pediatric Urology.

Dr. Ross stated, “Ben joined us in Pediatric Urology and quickly became an integral member of our team.” She reports that on multiple occasions, patients have commented on Ben’s kindness, professional approach to care and his helpful nature.

Ben has also been an essential part of urologic management of our complex Spina Bifida population. His expertise has resulted in a significant improvement in the quality of care for complex urological patients and the entire Pediatric Urology population.

Ben has quickly become a valuable part of the UNC Pediatric Urology team and the North Carolina Children’s Hospital. His expertise, dedication to patient care and willingness to address patient needs has far exceeded expectations. Dr. Ross states that “He is the BEST and indeed an Unsung Hero in the care of children at UNC!”
