We are delighted to announce that Dr. Hans Arora, Assistant Professor of Urology and Director of Robotic Surgery in Pediatric Urology, has been accepted into the UNC School of Medicine’s Academy of Educators (AOE) FLAGship (Faculty/Fellow Leadership and Growth) Program. Earlier this year, Dr. Arora also completed the AOE’s Leadership in Academic Medicine Program (LAMP), further solidifying his role as a leader in academic medicine.
About the FLAGship Program
The AOE’s FLAGship program, established in 2019, offers a unique opportunity for fellows and faculty to develop their leadership skills, engage in impactful educational projects, and connect with mentors within the Academy community. Participants embark on a nine-month journey of educational growth, attending monthly sessions that include journal clubs, leadership workshops, and discussions focused on education-related topics.
Dr. Arora’s acceptance into this program highlights his ongoing commitment to enhancing educational practices and his drive to lead innovative projects that will shape the future of urologic care. During his time in the FLAGship program, Dr. Arora will initiate an educational project and participate in a range of development activities, all aimed at advancing his role as an educator and leader at UNC.
More About Dr. Hans Arora
Dr. Hans Arora’s journey in medicine is marked by an impressive blend of clinical expertise, research, and a passion for patient care. He earned his M.D. and Ph.D. from the Northwestern University Feinberg School of Medicine and completed his urology residency at the Cleveland Clinic Foundation Glickman Urologic & Kidney Institute. Dr. Arora then pursued a fellowship in pediatric urology at the Ann & Robert H. Lurie Children’s Hospital of Chicago, Northwestern University, where he also completed a Health Services & Outcomes Research program.
Since joining UNC Urology in 2021, Dr. Arora has become a vital member of the Urology Department, specializing in both pediatric and adult urology. His expertise spans complex reconstruction, minimally invasive techniques, and robotic surgery for both benign and malignant conditions. Dr. Arora has a special focus on developing care models that facilitate the transition of patients with chronic urologic conditions from childhood to adulthood.
Beyond his clinical work, Dr. Arora is an active researcher dedicated to improving access to care for pediatric patients with urologic conditions and leveraging telemedicine to enhance care models. He has published numerous articles and book chapters and serves as a reviewer for leading journals in the field of urology. Dr. Arora is also a respected voice in health policy and advocacy, actively contributing to national discussions through his involvement with the American Medical Association (AMA) and the American Urological Association (AUA). Furthermore, Dr. Arora serves alongside fellow faculty member, Dr. Dave Friedlander as Co-Directors of UNC Urology’s Quality Improvement initiative.
