Dr. Davis Viprakasit recently had the privilege of being invited as a visiting professor for the Fourth Annual Sharing Urological Experiences Thai and University of Pittsburgh Medical Center (TUPMC) Meeting in Chiang Mai, Thailand. This academic collaboration brought together urologists from Thailand and the United States to exchange knowledge and ideas on the latest advancements in urologic care.

This year’s meeting had a focus on three key areas: urologic oncology, pediatric urology, and endourology. During his 6-day stay, Dr. Viprakasit was able to interact with many Thai urologic residents, faculty, staff, and medical students through formal lectures on the latest advances in kidney stone evaluation and treatment as well as surgical guidance on laser enucleation of the prostate. In addition to these professional interactions, he also had the chance to bond with his colleagues over meals and brief excursions in the area.

In conclusion, Dr. Viprakasit’s trip to Thailand was a journey of professional and cultural exchange that has provided him with new insights and ideas that will benefit his practice and his patients.

“I am very fortunate to have had the opportunity for this experience and felt the most fulfilling aspects were the ability to meet and learn from new friends and colleagues, the sharing of ideas and the recognition of the similarities and differences with how urologic care is delivered. It is an experience I hope to be able to bring to UNC Urology one day.”
