Chapel Hill, N.C. – June 25, 2019UNC Children’s has been ranked among the nation’s top children’s hospitals, according to U.S. News & World Report’s “Best Children’s Hospitals 2019-2020.”

UNC Children’s is nationally ranked in seven subspecialties, with two in the top 20. UNC Children’s is ranked 16th in the nation for diabetes and endocrinology and is also ranked 16th for pulmonology.

Other subspecialties receiving national recognition from the report include:

  • Orthopedics (23rd)
  • Nephrology (30th)
  • Cancer (36th)
  • Gastroenterology & GI Surgery (36th)
  • Urology (37th)

About Specialty Rankings

U.S. News’ Best Children’s Hospitals 2019-20 rankings rate eligible medical centers in 10 pediatric specialties. Ratings are based on hospital-submitted data including measurements such as survival and complex surgical outcomes, as well as use of best practices, infection prevention, advanced technologies, nursing quality, specialty-specific certifications and services, and expert opinion of specialists in the field. Fifty of the top performing hospitals were ranked in pediatric cancer, cardiology and heart surgery, diabetes and endocrinology, gastroenterology and GI surgery, neonatology, nephrology, neurology and neurosurgery, orthopedics, pulmonology and lung surgery and urology.
