UNC Hospitals in Chapel Hill

To be nationally ranked in a specialty, a facility must be rated among the top 50 hospitals in the nation for that specialty. For 2022-23, UNC Hospitals is nationally ranked in the adult specialties of:

  • Urology (#29)
  • Ear, Nose & Throat (#38)
  • Rehabilitation (#40)
  • Obstetrics & Gynecology (#47)

In June, UNC Children’s was also nationally ranked by US News in eight pediatric specialties which included Pediatric Urology at 37th in the Nation.

Prostate Cancer Surgery

In addition to the overall hospital rankings, UNC Hospitals in Chapel Hill was recognized as High Performing in Prostate Cancer Surgery. A hospital’s prostate cancer surgery score is based on multiple data categories, including patient outcomes, volume, cancer center designation, and more.

Over 6,000 hospitals were evaluated and eligible hospitals received one of three ratings — high performing (147 hospitals), average (836 hospitals), or below average (177 hospitals) with the balance either not offering the service or performing too few of the procedures to be rated. Hospitals that earn a high-performing rating are significantly better than the national average.
