The Bladder Cancer Advocacy Network held its annual 2022 Walk to End Bladder Cancer, presented by the NC Triangle Chapter of the Bladder Cancer Advocacy Network on Saturday, April 30 in Southern Community Park in Chapel Hill.

The event was organized by Mary Dunn, a UNC Urology Nurse Practitioner and tireless advocate for patients with bladder cancer. Mary was joined by our UNC Genitourinary Oncology team as well as many other patients, advocates, healthcare professionals, and families.

The walk allowed us to meet in person and enjoy live music, art, and goodies from Dusty Doughnuts while raising funds to help individuals affected by bladder cancer including those living in North Carolina.

Dr. Shekinah Elmore, a radiation oncologist, provided a short speech to kick off the walk, reminding us of our patient-centered mission at UNC Urologic Oncology. She was joined by Debbi Nixon, a bladder cancer survivor who provided her personal experience with bladder cancer and how BCAN supported her along the way.

At UNC Urology, we are so grateful to be a part of the bladder cancer community – and grateful for the support BCAN provides, including a patient assistance fund, support group, community outreach, and awareness – all to improve the lives of patients in NC affected by bladder cancer.
