Facility Description

 The Zebrafish Aquaculture Core facility has two larger recirculating systems and several stand-alone systems, two procedure rooms, a fluorescence microscope room, and a feed prep room.

Main Aquaculture Room (cir. 2016; 510 sqft ), containing:

  • Centralized Aquatic System (Tecniplast)
    • 18 adult aquaculture racks with a capacity of 3,080 liters and 15,400 fishzebrafish facility
    • two (2) nursery racks with a capacity of 198 liters and ~6,000 fry
    • one (1) genotyping rack with a capacity of 288 individually housed fish
    • drum filter
    • three (3) water pumps
    • two (2) heaters
    • automated dosing systems for salt and pH adjustments
    • carbon/particulate/UV filters
  • five (5) Tritone auto-feeding robots
  • one (1) iSpawn for mass embryo generation

New Aquaculture System (cir. 2021), spanning (4) rooms:

  • The system room contains double the Tecniplast equipment of the Main system
  • The (4) holding rooms each have 7-8 racks
  • The system has the capacity to double the number of racks and we have (1.5) extra rooms to build out when needed

Procedure Room I (128 sqft), containing:

  • two (2) microinjection stations, each with a Leica S6E stereomicroscope and Sutter Instruments Picospritzer III injectors (Drummond Nanoject II also available)
  • a Parker Instruments needle puller
  • a cell transplantation apparatus
  • a 13.2 cuft air incubator for embryo rearing

Fluorescence Microscopy Room (81 sqft ), equipped with:

  • one (1) Zeiss Axiozoom.V16 fluorescence stereomicroscope, equipped with color digital camera and computer
  • one (1) Leica M205C fluorescence stereomicroscope, equipped with high-speed monochrome fluorescence digital camera and computer
  • one (1) Leica M16FA fluorescence stereomicroscope, equipped with color digital camera and computer

Surgery/Behavioral Procedure Room (72 sqft), including:

  • One (1) survival surgery station
  • One (1) swim tunnel
  • Zantiks LT coming soon!

Old Age Research Room, including:

  • Two (2) Tecniplast aquaculture Killifish stand-alone racks with a capacity of 250 liters and 50 tanks each
  • Two (2) Tecniplast aquaculture Zebrafish stand-alone racks with a capacity of 250 liters and 50 tanks each
  • Two (2) brine shrimp hatchers

Quarantine Room, including:

  • four (4) Tecniplast aquaculture stand-alone racks with a capacity of 250 liters and 50 tanks each
  • one (1) Tecniplast aquaculture stand-alone rack with a capacity of 350 liters and 90 tanks
  • Small incubator at 28C
  • One (1) Leica S6E stereomicroscope

Procedure Room II:

  • Two (2) Leica S7E stereomicroscopes
  • One (1) injector

Feed Prep Room:

  • Maintain at least two (2) continuous rotifer cultures
