Dr. Kappelman, MD, MPH is a pediatric gastroenterologist with clinical and research interests in Inflammatory Bowel Disease. He received his medical degree from Washington University School of Medicine in St. Louis, completed his pediatric residency at Massachusetts General Hospital, and did his fellowship training in pediatric gastroenterology and health services research at Harvard Medical School and the Children’s Hospital of Boston. He is currently an Associate Professor of Pediatrics at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.
His research spans the disciplines of epidemiology, health services research, and quality improvement. This includes many studies using real-world data to evaluate the effectiveness and safety of IBD treatments. He has received funding through the NIH, Patient Centered Outcomes Research Institute, CCFA, AHRQ, and industry.
