Our program has many opportunities for those in the community who are looking to get involved with our program.

Donations

If you wish to drop something off, please call ahead on weekdays other than Thursday, and a staff member will meet you by the donation room door on the first floor prior to 4:00 p.m.

*We are unable to pick up donations.
*All donations of baby furniture require year and make so we can verify against recall lists.

Year-Round Needs:

  • Diapers
  • Infant clothing
  • Infant accessories: receiving blankets, infant soft carriers (Baby Bjorn, etc.), towels, socks, bibs, mittens, new bottles
  • Bathroom items for women ‘ (shampoo, soap, toothpaste, deodorant, pads, tampons, etc.)
  • Bathroom items for children 0-12 years old (soap, shampoo, toothpaste, bath toys, etc.)
  • Bras
  • Socks
  • Suitcases
  • Kitchen items (gently used dishes, silverware, pots, etc.)
  • Books for women and children

Seasonal Needs:

Spring (March-May)

  • Pool items (floaties, noodles, pool toys)
  • Bathing suits, all sizes
  • Swim diapers
  • Sandals, flip-flops
  • Outside toys (sidewalk chalk, balls, bubbles, sand toys, etc.)

Summer (June-August)

  • School supplies
  • Backpacks
  • Sun lotion
  • Sneakers, all sizes

Fall (Sept-Nov)

  • Halloween costumes, gently used
  • Winter coats and boots, gently used, all sizes for women and children
  • Mittens, gloves, hats, etc., all sizes for women and children
  • Wrapping paper, tape
  • Gently used holiday decor

Winter (Dec-Feb)

  • Calendars and planners
  • Spring items (raincoats, rain boots, umbrellas, etc.), all sizes
  • Door mats

Volunteer Opportunities

We provide opportunities for volunteers to assist in various facets of our programming and in fundraising and community outreach.

Training Opportunities

Horizons is a training site for undergraduate and graduate students from area universities who are interested in placements with UNC Horizons. Students come from the fields of medicine, nursing, women’s studies, psychology, psychiatry, social work, counseling, public health, and education.
