Research
The Division of Surgical Oncology at the University of North Carolina is dedicated to developing and implementing research programs which actively investigate the pathophysiology of diseases such as colon, pancreatic, breast, endocrine and melanoma cancers.
In addition to our Surgical Oncology Fellowship we maintain an NIH funded T32 Surgical Oncology Research Training grant to enable residents and post doctorates from around the country to participate in the rich research environment that UNC sustains.
The Division is actively involved in clinical trials and collaborative relationships with other departments within the University including the Division of Hematology Oncology, Radiation Oncology, Lineberger Clinical Cancer Center , Genetics Department, Dermatology Department and Pathology Department just to name a few. Many of our research laboratories are funded through both intramural and extramural mechanisms; including the National Institutes of Health.
Researchers (led by Dr. Nancy DeMore) identify new cell targets for preventing growth of breast and other tumors. See news release.
