Where to Begin

Selecting a hearing aid can be a confusing and complicated process, however our board certified audiologists stand ready to guide you to the best option. Each hearing aid is fit within an Individualized Hearing Treatment Plan that is customized exactly to your hearing loss, your lifestyle, your communication goals and your budget. Because our audiologists receive ZERO compensation from hearing aid manufacturers and do not work on commission, you can trust that each faculty provider will only recommend what is required to meet your needs.

Functional Communication Assessment

Following a diagnostic hearing test, the Functional Communication Assessment (FCA)*, is the next step in improving communication. The appointment lasts approximately 60 minutes and includes additional testing in a sound treated booth and a personalized consultation.

During the appointment, the audiologist will:

  • Conduct Speech In Noise testing
  • Measure Loudness Discomfort Levels
  • Complete a Lifestyle Assessment
  • Outline patient activities and interests
  • Determine goals and expectations of new hearing aids
  • Recommend hearing aids, based on
    • Audiogram/Hearing Test
    • Communication Goals
    • Complexity of listening environments
    • Financial considerations
  • Consider accessories or additional assistive listening devices, such as:
    • Bluetooth connectivity for phone
    • Streaming of TV or music
    • Remote microphone

Once the patient makes an informed decision, the hearing devices are ordered from the respective manufacturer.  An impression of the ear may be required for custom products.  The fitting will be held approximately one to two weeks following the hearing aid selection.
