Associate Professor Research Summary Sid Barritt is trained in gastroenterology, hepatology, liver transplantation and clinical epidemiology. His research interests are in health outcomes and clinical epidemiology as they pertain to chronic liver disease, particularly NAFLD and liver transplantation. He has leveraged his position at UNC to participate in multi-disciplinary research projects such as using a forecasting technique relatively novel to the clinical medical literature called discrete event simulation, and using this methodology to predict liver donor availability over time. This collaboration resulted in several publications and grant funding with future funding pending. Additional collaborations with clinical and experimental pharmacologists have resulted in translational research relevant to the field of NAFLD, again with multiple publications. In each of these endeavors, he has been able to use his background in both clinical epidemiology and transplant hepatology to either lead or make strong contributions to multidisciplinary research teams.
