Department of Medicine, Division of Gastroenterology and Hepatology School of Medicine University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill Research Summary Swathi Eluri is a newly appointed tenure track Assistant Professor of Medicine in the UNC Division of Gastroenterology and Hepatology. She trained in the Digestive Disease Epidemiology T32 and received a Master’s in Clinical Research. Her research focus is on Barrett’s esophagus and eosinophilic esophagitis. Her published research has included studies of clinical outcomes of Barrett’s endotherapy, risk-stratification for esophageal neoplasia, long-term treatment outcomes and characterizing phenotypes in eosinophilic esophagitis (EoE), and exploring patient perspectives in transition of care in EoE and esophageal atresia. In addition to a CGIBD pilot/feasibility award, she has been funded through an AGA Research Scholar Award focused on improving Barrett’s screening in high-risk GERD patients using qualitative and quantitative research methodology. A secondary research focus is in exploring non-invasive biomarkers for risk stratification for progression to dysplasia in Barrett’s esophagus, as well as histologic and serologic biomarkers for assessing disease severity and treatment response in patients with eosinophilic esophagitis. Relevance of Research to CGIBD Mission: Dr. Eluri’s focus is on Barrett’s esophagus and eosinophilic esophagitis, two of the diseases that are a major emphasis in the CGIBD. She is a digestive disease epidemiologist who trained on our T32. She has been supported by a CGIBD pilot/feasibility award. CGIBD Focus Area(s): Clinical/Translational
