Department of Medicine, Division of Gastroenterology and Hepatology School of Medicine University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill Research Summary Millie Long is a gastroenterologist with formal training in epidemiology. Her primary research and clinical interests include studies of IBD. A special focus is patient centered outcomes research and comparative effectiveness and safety research, as well as studies of the epidemiology and utilization of resources in patients with IBD. She has expertise in large database analysis using administrative claims data. She currently serve as co-director of the Crohn’s and Colitis Foundation Clinical Research Alliance and has expertise in implementation of investigator-initiated studies. The Biostatistics and Clinical Research Core of the CGIBD serves as the Data Management Center for the Alliance. Dr. Long completed a fellowship in Preventive Medicine and has conducted research on prevention in IBD patients. Relevance of Research to CGIBD Mission: Millie Long’s research concerns the epidemiology and outcomes of IBD. Given her background in Preventive Medicine, she has also studied the use of prevention measures (such as vaccines) in IBD patients.
